Irvine, California is a sprawling urban area that covers over 66 square miles. It is home to a wide range of transportation options, including buses, light rail, trains, biking, and walking. The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), Amtrak, iShuttle, and Spectrumotion are some of the partners that work together to provide a comprehensive transportation network. The two most popular public transportation systems in Irvine are the Metrolink and OCTA buses.
Both are managed by the OCTA and are great for daily commutes. OCTA buses have a regular schedule and usually arrive on time. The Irvine station is located at 15215 Barranca Parkway in the Irvine Transportation Center. For longer trips, Amtrak is also available at the same location.
In addition to public transportation, Irvine also offers CU Rides, a program designed to promote alternative and healthy forms of transportation. This program includes a free bike loan program, bicycle repairs, and intentional alternative transportation programs.
